The former Stone Roses and Seahorses guitarist, John Squire is presenting a brand new exhibition of mixed media works at London’s SW1 Gallery, opening to the public between October 10 and November 2.
The mop haired strummer who graduated from art school before he joined the Roses and did all of the band’s sleeve art, is continuing to experiment with text and language within painting, a motif which he began exploring with his show for the Signal Gallery earlier this year.
Squire has admitted that he covertly recorded conversations by local people in Greater Manchester. These stories, anecdotes and jokes are built up in great big seascapes, with various phrases and sentences highlighted for effect.
His next exhibition of original work is a major solo show at the Oldham Gallery, in July 2009, followed by an exhibition at Gallery Thiele in Linz, Austria in October 2009.
