LISTEN: New John Maus

The anguish! Showy synth pop auteur to play London date in August around the release of his rarities CD

John Maus live is quite something to witness, and perhaps something of an acquired taste. If you enjoy a particularly sweaty and anguished session that runs somewhere between karaoke and performance art (and frequently finds your host punching himself in the face and rolling around on the floor), then you’ll be pleased to hear that he’s set to play a show at London’s Scala on the 14th August. It’s the first time he’ll have come to the UK since his show at the Tufnell Park Dome last November, which in the surrounds of the venue resembled a particularly seedy school disco or wedding reception.

The show accompanies the release of his new compilation album, the self-explanatorily titled A Collection of Rarities & Previously Unreleased Material, which gathers together a host of material from across his career. You can listen to 2007 track ‘Bennington’ via the embed above. The album is released on July 16th.
