What a slovenly, sorry state of affairs the country has put itself into today. A majority Conservative governmen. Five more years. That pit-of-stomach fury you’re feeling is shared by The Eccentronic Research Council, who have just unveiled a new song, ‘Loathsome Dave’, to "strongly oppose the reinstatement of D. Cameron". Listen above, and keep an ear out for Maxine Peake’s particularly ace epithet to the prime minister, "the blue-tied toff dinky winky Dick Turpin".
The ERC are long-term favourites of the Quietus, and the band’s Adrian Flanagan and Dean Honer will be supporting tQ editor John Doran tonight on his An English Trip, stopping by Sheffield tonight. John’s a third of the way through his journey around the country in support of his first book, Jolly Lad – get hold of it via his publishers Strange Attractor Press’ website here – and he’ll be at the Picture House Social, accompanied by Årabrot’s Kjetil Nernes. Have a read of John’s interview with The ERC, Peake and Lias Saoudi of the Fat White Family, discussing the album they collaborated on this year, the ERC’s third, Johnny Rocket, Narcissist & Music Machine… I’m Your Biggest Fan. As well as The ERC, Keeley Forsyth, the actor and musician who’s been working on recordings of her eerie, excellent harmonium folk with Adrian and Dean, will be playing. Daniel Dylan Wray, the ace Sheffield-based writer who’s also putting the gig on, talked to Keeley for us this week, so read the interview here, and listen to ‘Time Heals’ below:
Daniel also talked to John about his book before the gig, so read that over at Loud And Quiet, where John’s also put together a Sheffield playlist. Full details of the night are over at the Facebook event here, and tickets are available for £5 advance here or for £7 on the door.
