John Coltrane Sessions Collected In Box Set

37 session recordings by John Coltrane dating back over 60 years will be the focus of a new box set

John Coltrane’s 1958 session recordings for label Prestige are to be collected in a new 8xLP box set set for release in March.

In all, the set – titled Coltrane ’58 – takes in 37 tracks, all remastered from their original tapes. All of the tracks were recorded in a studio in New Jersey over the course of a series of three-hour recording sessions.

Amongst the tracks featured are ‘Lush Life’, ‘Nakatini Serenade’, ‘Black Pearls’ and ‘Stardust’. The recordings feature Coltrane backed by an ensemble of musicians, taking in guitar, drums, trumpet, bass and piano. Many of the tracks featured later found their way onto other Coltrane albums.

Also included in the set is a 40-page book with liner notes by music historian Ashley Kahn and rare photographs. It’s out on March 29 and can be pre-ordered here.
