John Coltrane Album From 1964 To Get First Release

Blue World will finally see the light of day over 50 years on

A John Coltrane album recorded with his Classic Quartet in 1964 is finally to be released.

Blue World was recorded between Coltrane’s records Crescent and A Love Supreme, and takes in a number of variations of some of his earlier work. The album, which clocks in at 37 minutes, was originally recorded at the request of Canadian filmmaker Gilles Groulx to soundtrack his film Le chat dans le sac. However, only 10 minutes of the studio session made it into the film.

This release marks the first time the full session has been made available, and it’s been remastered from the original analogue tape.

Impulse!/UMe will release Blue World on September 27. You can hear the title track above. This release follows on from another archival release, this time of lost album Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album, back in June.
