Joel Ford, who makes up one half of synth-pop duo Ford & Lopatin with Daniel ‘Oneohtrix Point Never’ Lopatin, as well as running the Brooklyn imprint Software with Lopatin, has announced the founding of his new label Driftless Recordings.
Ford has set up Driftless with Patrick McDermott and will be releasing Airbird material through it, as well as new work by Software label mate Megafortress, with the roster also featuring McDermott’s work as North Americans, Ejecta, Bruce Smear, Jeff Gitelman, Noah Wall and Andrew Brady. Says Ford in a statement accompanying the announcement: "Driftless Recordings is a record label by Joel Ford and Patrick McDermott. The roster is diverse: from Megafortress’ intimate chamber pop to the monolithic slabs of beautiful noise of McDermott’s North Americans project to Bruce Smear’s fractured beat-work, it’s less about tracing sonic similarities, and more about taking each project as a patchwork view of everyday life, through each artist’s idiosyncratic, often psychedelic vision. Driftless is not a pop label or an experimental label, but a label that unites a diverse cross-section of artists who are using music and field recordings and a general obsession with sound as a way of understanding the weird world they inhabit."
