Jenny Hval: New LP Details

tQ favourite to release new album in June

Jenny Hval has supplied The Quietus with some of our favourite musical moments of the past few years, whether last year’s Meshes Of Voice collaboration with Susanna (and accompanying emotionally stunning concerts) or a great support slot before Swans at Supersonic 2014. Now we’re excited to say that she’s signed to Sacred Bones and will release a new album called Apocalypse Girl in June. There’s even a trailer above and, though we think that album trailers are the latest PR-imagined means of interrupting our steady course towards world domination, this one is great. It features women battering on a window and a narrative bemoaning a lack of cultural futures. "What is soft dick rock?" she asks at the end. We can give you some suggestions. The record features intriguing collaborators including Øystein Moen of Jaga Jazzist/Puma, Thor from Swans, cellist Okkyung Lee and harpist Rhodri Davis. We are told that the album "dreams of an old science fiction movie where gospel choir girls are punks and run the world with auto-erotic impulses. It’s a gentle hum from a doomsday cult, a soft desire for collective devotion, an ode to the close-up and magnified, unruly desires." We are very excited.
