Jeff Mills will present a residency, Star Chronicle, at Detroit’s Spot Lite venue next month.
Running from September 10 to 13 and organised in collaboration with Paxahau, the residency comprises live performances, talks, film screenings and a public exhibition curated by Mills himself, featuring pieces of art and other ephemera from the Detroit techno legend’s personal collection.
Each night at the venue, Mills will be joined for talks and performances by collaborators from his quarterly magazine Escape Velocity, such as Terrence Dixon, Optic Nerve and Developer.
There will also be screenings of two of his films: 2018’s PLANETS by Dairakudakan (September 12) and 2015’s Life To Death And Back (September 13). Visitors will also get a chance to see X-102 Rediscovers The Rings Of, a compilation of excerpts from a live performance by Mills and Mike Banks’ Underground Resistance alias, X-102.
Speaking in a statement about the exhibition, Mills said: “The objective of Star Chronicle is to propose new ways of thinking about where we’re going. Collectively as a community of deep-thinking animals. What we’re spiraling towards and the purpose of staying awake. What it means to be conscious and alive.”
