Jeanie Finlay, one of the Quietus’ favourite documentary makers, has announced that her latest full-length work, Panto!, will be aired on BBC Four this month. The film documents the lives of a group of amateur theatre actors from Nottingham Arts Theatre. Despite struggling with the lowest budget in the city, the theatre still manage to put on an annual pantomime, which they’ve done for longer than any of their rivals. Finlay traces the actors using her trademark "documentary portrait" style, as seen in her previous work, Sound It Out and The Great Hip Hop Hoax.
It comes ahead of her eighth feature, Orion: The Man Who Would Be King, which is set to come out in the new year, and will be broadcast as part of the Storyville series on December 22 at 9.25 pm; take a look at Finlay’s film Baker’s Dozen here.
