It’s no secret that vinyl pressing plants are currently under considerable strain with numerous releases delayed, usually from small independent labels, as plants struggle to meet the increasing demand for vinyl releases.
As The Vinyl Factory reports, Jack White is now set to open his own pressing plant as part of his ever-growing Third Man empire – he previously launched a record shop also under the name of his own record label and the plant will be setup just behind the store. The plant will be based in Detroit and will be the city’s first since Archer Record Pressing opened in 1965.
Demand is apparently considerably backed up at the two main plants in the region, but Third Man will primarily be used to press Third Man’s own releases while also opening itself up to local acts. Co-founder Ben Blackwell told Pitchfork: “This is going to make it easier for a little punk band to make 300 copies of a 7”.”
