Irmin Schmidt has a new live album on the way.
Titled Nocturne, the album was captured at a late 2019 performance Schmidt did at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. The set was his first solo piano concert in the UK and saw him perform the worldwide premiere of two unheard compositions, ‘Nocturne’ and ‘Yonder’, as well as the UK premiere of ‘Klavierstück II’, from 2018 album 5 Klavierstücke. All three recordings feature on the album.
You can hear a short excerpt from Nocturne via the video trailer above, ahead of the release of the album via Mute / Spoon Records on May 29, which is also Schmidt’s 83rd birthday.
