Invada are well known for their love of soundtracks, having put out OSTs for Drive, Valhalla Rising, Clint Mansell’s Stoker score and label boss Geoff Barrow’s Judge Dredd-inspired soundtrack, Drokk. The label made their first foray into releasing video game soundtracks earlier this year with Power Glove’s retro-futurist soundtrack for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and now they’re about to do it again with Brian Reitzell’s score for the new open world action adventure game WATCH_DOGS.
Among an extensive filmography, the composer has previously worked with director Sofia Coppola on the soundtracks for The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette and Lost In Translation, for which he received a BAFTA award along with Kevin Shields in 2003. His work for WATCH_DOGS, though, features dark, brooding analogue synths and claustrophobic beats alongside atmospheric moments that bring to mind Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack. The game itself aims to bring together Grand Theft Auto-style open world play together with cyberpunk and science fiction influences from Philip K. Dick and William Gibson.
WATCH_DOGS is out on CD and Vinyl on July 28; in the meantime, have a listen to three tracks via the sampler above.
