FatCat Records offshoot 130701 has announced a new record from Ian William Craig, titled Thresholder. Streaming exclusively above is lead track ‘And Therefore The Moonlight’.
Thresholder is the Vancouver-based composer’s first new release in 18 months and many of its tracks’ origins can be traced back years to sessions for past releases from Ian William Craig such as 2014’s A Turn Of Breath and 2016’s Centres.
"The original impetus for the record came out of sessions for some commission work and was inspired by concepts of quantum physics, black holes and space," a press release says.
William Craig explains: "I started by making a 20-minute piece that was just stitching together the sound of the decks and the equipment as they went about their business, almost like one was wandering through the different parts of a spacecraft. I then used this piece to coax together the rest of the tracks, envisioning the whole thing as a single 40-minute space which would become the soundtrack of being held in place by a great unknowable force while still being able to meander through the chaos and beauty of that expanded instant."
130701 will release Thresholder digitally and on vinyl on November 2 and can be pre-ordered here, while some European shows are planned for shortly after the release.
