UIQ, Lee Gamble’s label which released the excellent 7 Directions LP from Nkisi earlier this year, is back with the debut release on the imprint from HXE, titled INDS.
Formerly known as HEX via a release on Mute sub-label Liberation Technologies in 2016, the London-based duo are stepping out under the new name with an excellent EP of speedy, mutant club music. The record’s four tracks are packed with harsh kicks and the kind of metallic sound design that followers of UIQ might associate with past records on the label.
Above, you can check a video that takes in two of the EP’s tracks – ‘Rozay’ and ‘Shiver’ – with visuals coming courtesy of sculptures created by Anita Molinero. Her work centres around salvaging industrial objects, and deforming them irreversibly. "Molinero’s contorted sculptural pieces formed of molten plastic and metal are used to create an abrasive ‘horror’ of objects, misshapen beyond recognition into in-between malformations," a press release explains of the video.
INDS is available on vinyl here, while a digital release will follow later today (May 16).
