LISTEN: House Of Black Lanterns – ‘Shot You Down’

Listen to a track from former King Cannibal man's new cinematic techno guise, from his upcoming new album

Dylan Richards – the Berlin-based producer formerly known as King Cannibal and Zilla – has recently announced the release of his debut full length under his new House Of Black Lanterns guise. Entitled Kill The Lights, it’s set for release on May 6th via Houndstooth, and draws strong influence from darkened techno, electronic dub, 808-driven bass musics and film soundtracks. In advance of the album’s release, we’re pleased to be able to offer you a stream of album track ‘Shot You Down’, co-written with Alpines’ Catherine Pockson, which features Leni Ward’s vocals buoyant above a subby four-to-the-floor drive.

Kill The Lights follows on from the release, also via Houndstooth, of Richards’ single ‘Truth & Loss’. In his words, the project is concerned with "suspense, space and depth. It’s more restrained than anything I have worked on before; that threat of violence is buried deep in texture rather than worn outwardly on my sleeve."

"House Of Black Lanterns delivers a defined change in vision and style," reads the text accompanying the album’s release. "Retaining the earlier influence of DJ Krust’s sprawling drum & bass soundscapes, Richards develops his sound to incorporate the dub-inflected techno textures of Rhythm & Sound whilst nodding to the catchy, yet occasionally bleak floorfillers of Trax, all inspired by the modern noir visual style of Michael Mann."

In addition, audio from the Houndstooth Boiler Room session from last week has now been uploaded – listen to Richards’ live set via the embed below.

Kill The Lights‘ tracklist runs as follows:

‘Broken (feat. Ghettozoid)’
