Houndstooth Release Remixes Comp

Fabric's in-house label, curated by Electronic Explorations' Rob Booth, cap off their first year with a low-price package of remixes available now

Houndstooth, the label established by London’s Fabric club and curated by Electronic Explorations mainman Rob Booth, have just released a remixes compilation to round off their first year’s worth of activity. It’s been a great inaugural year for the label: under Booth’s curatorial guidance they’ve gravitated towards technoid sounds with a distinctly metal-plated, hardcore twist, releasing Special Request’s unruly, jungle-tinged Soul Music album, a tough-as-nails recent full length by Manchester duo Akkord, two excellent EPs by Berlin-based techno producer Call Super and a host of others.

The remixes compilation, titled HTH vs. HTH, pits the label’s signings against one another, with each remixing a track by the other. The results act both as a sampler for the general mood of the label, as well as a handy – and, at £1 for the mp3 compilation, very inexpensive – booster shot of sleek and futuristic electronic music. Highlights include a grubby Special Request VIP of Akkord’s ‘Destruction’, a characteristically detailed and moody Second Story remix of Call Super’s ‘Dewsbury Severance’, and Call Super’s retort to Second Story in the shape of a reworked ‘Still Seas’.

"HTH vs HTH is something we wanted to do to give something back to the people who’ve been buying the records," says Booth in an accompanying statement. "We’ve actually had fans and collectors sending us pictures of our entire catalogue to date and, in a sense; we wanted to offer those people some new and exclusive music that would tie off the year and release something that will act as an affordable label sampler to introduce casual listeners to other Houndstooth artists."

You can buy the digital compilation – for £1 in 320 mp3 or £2 in lossless format – by clicking here to head to the Houndstooth website.

And Houndstooth have made the entire EP available to stream via YouTube – listen below.
