Geoff Hoon Hits Back At Latitude

Plus he makes bizarre cycling claim

Geoff Hoon has responded to Latitude Festival organiser Melvyn Benn’s comments in which he said that the Secretary of State for Transport – who supports the expansion of Heathrow Airport – was at odds with the Festival’s green ethos. Hoon is a regular visitor to Latitude.

Hoon issued a statement to NME.com in which he says "I enjoy going to Latitude. It has an excellent mixture of music, film, theatre and comedy. I’ve always admired the efforts to attract an audience of all ages and its commitment to the environment."

The best bit, though, is when Hoon insists that he’s as green as they come, saying "I have been able to play my part by cycling there." Given that it is 193 miles from Hoon’s Ashfield constituency to the festival in Southwold, one wonders if he is combining the Festival with training for a HP team in the Tour De France? A race with Kraftwerk? An artistic collaboration with David Byrne?
