Running until the end of October, the British Film Institute’s extensive and rather exciting Genius of Hitchcock season gathers steam this month with the unveiling of specially commissioned soundtracks for two of the iconic director’s silent pictures, freshly restored for the big screen. Saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch will premiere his contemporary jazz music for boxing melodrama The Ring (1927, pictured below) on Friday July 13 at Hackney Empire. This event will also be streamed live via digital arts service The Space.
Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, Nitin Sawhney debuts his score for fog-wreathed classic The Lodger (1926, pictured above) on Saturday July 21 at the Barbican. This new print opens in cinemas nationwide from Friday August 10, including an extended run at BFI Southbank – where the composer appears in conversation after the release date screening – as part of the venue’s complete retrospective of the Master of Suspense.
