Hail! Hey Colossus, firm tQ favourites, purveyors of some fearsome rock prowess and self-described "London-based tinnitus machine", have announced their eighth album, In Black & Gold. It’s out on February 9 on Rocket Recordings, their first for the Bristol/London label, and in fine Rocket style, the news comes with a stellar trailer, courtesy of frequent collaborator Johnny O – set your eyes ‘pon it at the foot of the piece.
According to the announcement, the band have pared back their sound for the record, following on from 2013’s Cuckoo Live Life Like Cuckoo. From what we’ve heard so far, it still packs a mighty heft, but one that’s been subject to "an evolutionary process has led to their maximalist tendencies being replaced by a sharp focus on space and restraint, not to mention a refreshing stylistic diversity, resulting in a strange aural alchemy"; in short, an "avant-garage piece de resistance".
Once the album’s out, the band will be taking it on the road for a run of dates, so take a look at them below and read our recent(-ish) full band Baker’s Dozen here.
