On January 21, perennially ace label Riot Season will be putting out the debut album by Henry Blacker, a new trio featuring two members of one of the Quietus’ favourite hard rocking crews, Hey Colossus. The album’s called Hungry Dogs Will Eat Dirty Puddings and is the product of a no frills period of writing in a barn in the West Country and recording in a two-day stint in London. You can pre-order the album on vinyl and download over at Riot Season’s online shop (the record’s out on Learning Curve Records in the US), and ahead of its release, we’ve got a taster in the form of opener ‘Crab House’, a three-and-a-half-minute slab of angle grinder guitars and vamping pianos, with vocals that run the gamut from give a fuck indifference to nut job wig out – have a listen above, and read a few words of introduction from the band below.
"Henry Blacker are a three-piece from Somerset, two in the band Hey Colossus and a brother on drums. Heavy with a swing, twisty guitar, shitty bass. Album written in a barn, recorded in a basement, a Part Chimp [Westminster Brown] at the controls. ‘Crab House’ is the opening tune from the record, it’s about being completely and totally devoured by crabs."
