Jeff Winterberg, the former Antioch Arrow guitarist and renowned rock photographer, is currently undergoing treatment for medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer that affects less than 2% of adults. He was diagnosed with the illness late last year, and has so far undergone surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and his doctors have high hopes for his recovery.
However, the condition’s rarity means that little is known about its long-term effects, meaning that Jeff will have to go in for regular MRI over the next few years to monitor the threat of the cancer recurring.
This, and the expense of the current medical care, amount to a significant cost and Jeff’s friends have started a campaign to raise $50,000 to offset this. You can make a donation over at Picture Jeff Cancer-Free’s YouCaring page: any amount is welcome and the campaign is offering prints of Jeff’s photographs of bands like The Melvins, Fugazi and Karp – the images are over at the campaign’s Facebook page – for certain donation levels. The amount raised is currently just over $20,000 and we would urge you to contribute what you can.
The Quietus’ thoughts are with Jeff, his family and friends and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
