XL Recordings’ next release will mark a label debut from drum & bass and jungle producer Gyrofield.
Titled These Heavens, the EP spans four tracks and will come out as part of XL’s iconic house bag series, which has previously taken in records from Blawan, Joy Orbison and Overmono, among others. The record is led by the single ‘Lagrange’, which you can listen to below.
In a statement about These Heavens, the Hong Kong-born, Bristol-based producer, real name Kiani Li, said: “I see a lot of value in creating danceable music that also touches base on atmospheric and spaced-out sounds, key use of instrumentation, and composition to provide a complement to the beats and energy of the music.
“I’m a big fan of a lot of drum & bass that has come out, but the influences for this record stem just as much from electro and techno like I Hate Models and DjRUM to synth ambient, post-rock and experimental pop à la Björk.
“The four tracks that make up this EP are about the very human emotions and thoughts that drive the rigorous disciplines of science. We seek knowledge and to understand the stars and universe above us, even though they operate lifelessly, and on such a vast scale. We put our love and dreams into understanding the heavens, hoping that one day we can be amongst them.”
XL Recordings will release These Heavens on August 30, 2024.
