Gyratory System To Support Soulwax At Brixton

Personal invite from Belgians to blowers

Gyratory System’s The Sound Board Breathes is one of the finest albums you’re likely to hear this year – and it seems that Ghent’s most able selectors share our opinion.

For the Dewaele brothers have personally invited Gyratory System to support them at their Brixton Academy gigs on December 11th and 12th this year.

"I got a call out of the blue about the Soulwax gig, and it seems they found out about us purely by word of mouth, which is encouraging," says the System’s Dr Andrew Blick, adding that he’s no stranger to the venue: "I haven’t played the Brixton Academy since 1996, when I band I was in called Octopus was touring with Sleeper. That was a good night, actually, sold out, but this is probably going to be quite a different experience again."

Do the band feel a similarity with what Soulwax do in combining dance music with this band structure? "I suppose the kinship I feel with Soulwax is that Much Against Everyone’s Advice came out when I was at 6th Form and tapped into my love of electronics, and live instruments," says James Weaver. "It was them and people like Goldfrapp, Ladytron, NIN etc and seeing a live show by Sneaker Pimps

about two years later that made me buy my first synth."

"In terms of Gyratory System we like the way Soulwax is fairly fluid in what they do, DJing/Live/Remixing/Producing," Dr Blick adds. "It is a good way of getting a lot of creative output going."

By the way, you can still listen to The Sound Board Breathes here:

After the Soulwax gig, Gyratory System are putting out an EP of remixes, including those they’ve done for others, and have been working on new tracks with titles including ‘Lost on the King’s Road’, ‘The Lord’s Resistance Army’ and ‘Seven Dials’.

The EP is coming out on Angular in mid-February and will be accompanied by a video and tour.
