Gwenno Details New Album, ‘Tresor’

The artist's third solo album is her second written almost entirely in the Cornish language of Kernewek

Gwenno has a new album on the way via Heavenly Recordings, called Tresor.

The artist’s third solo album, it is also her second full-length record to be written almost entirely in the Cornish language of Kernewek. The album takes its name from the Kernewek word for ‘treasure’, and was written in St. Ives, Cornwall, just prior to the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020. Work on it was completed at Gwenno’s home in Cardiff during the pandemic along with her co-producer and frequent collaborator Rhys Edwards.

Female writers and artists such as Ithell Colquhoun, the Cornish language poet Phoebe Proctor, Maya Deren and Monica Sjöö, as well as musicians such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Eden Ahbez and William Basinski, are all name-checked as influences on the record. Heavenly will release Tresor on July 1, 2022.
