Guns ‘N’ Roses Killers

Las Vegas four-piece The Killers beat G'N'R to UK number one spot.

And so it would appear that 14 years and $13 million does not a number one album make.

Despite Chinese Democracy being possibly the most eagerly anticipated album of the last, well, 14 years, the fact that it’s not actually very good (read the Quietus’ explanation of why that is) has proved telling in the end, with The Killers most recent effort Day and Age comfortably out selling it to reach number one in the UK album charts.

Apparently, last week G’N’R PR man, Andy Gould, compared Chinese Democracy to the Sistine Chapel – which I guess make Day and Age something akin to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

In one modicum of good news for Mr Rose, Chinese Democracy charted well ahead of Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreak, which peaked at Number 11.
