Godspeed You! Black Emperor have announced a new album entitled Luciferian Towers. You can stream the album’s opening track, called ‘Undoing a Luciferian Tower’, below.
Luciferian Towers was recorded during the winter of 2016 going into 2017 at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango, with Greg Norman once again taking up engineering and co-production duties as he did on the band’s previous album Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress, released in 2015.
The music on the album came together amidst the group’s collaborative performances with the Holy Body Tattoo dance company’s monumental, and are said to have been influenced by the commissioning of the band to create new compositions memorialising the 100th anniversary of the WWI Battle of Messines.
The album is the third from the band since their reunion in 2011, and a statement from the group has been shared to accompany its announcement, beginning: "this, this long-playing record, a thing we made in the midst of communal mess, raising dogs and children. eyes up and filled with dreadful joy – we aimed for wrong notes that explode, a quiet muttering amplified heavenward. we recorded it all in a burning motorboat."
