LISTEN: New DJINN

DJINN, a group formed of members of Goat and Hills, have announced their debut record with a new track

Formed from members of Goat, and fellow Swedes Hills, DJINN are a new psychedelic project that take their primary inspiration from folklore and mythology, as well as the free-jazz of Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra. Taking their name from ancient Arabic spirits, the music of DJINN is shrouded in mystery and continually evocative of desert spirits.

It’s the Coltrane influence that really comes to the fore on debut track ‘Le Jardin de la Morte’, a sprawling five-minute number that nods to spiritual and devotional jazz in a big way, and can be heard above.

The most jazz-leaning record ever to come out via psych and noise specialists Rocket Recordings, it’s hypnagogic and entrancing. It lays the groundwork for DJINN’s debut album to be up their with the transportive best of the group members’ other projects.

Rocket Recordings will release DJINN’s self-titled debut album on May 17. You can pre-order it here.
