Glastonbury has launched this year’s Emerging Talent Competition giving emerging UK and Ireland-based artists of all genres the opportunity to win a main stage slot at the 2016 festival, along with a £5,000 Talent Development prize from PRS for Music Foundation.
Artists are asked to enter with links to an original track on SoundCloud and a video of themselves performing live, even if it’s just in a bedroom, to the festival’s website for one week only from 9am next Monday, January 18, to 5pm on January 25. Once the entries are in, 40 UK music writers, including the Quietus, will compile a longlist of 120 acts, which will then be whittled down to a shortlist of eight by a panel of judges including Michael and Emily Eavis, all of whom will perform at the live finals at Pilton Working Men’s Club. Two runners-up will also receive a £2,500 PRS for Music Foundation Prize, while for the last two years all eight finalists were also offered slots at the festival.
Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis said: "New music has always been a huge part of what we do at Glastonbury, and the Emerging Talent Competition has become an incredible way for us to discover – and help draw attention to – the very latest talent."
