Swans’ Michael Gira is to play The Barbican with guest appearances from Thurston Moore and Laura Cannell for Art Assembly’s Saisonscape: New Life on March 30.
Gira will play songs from throughout his Swans, Angels of Light, and solo catalogues with stripped-back instrumentation, Thurston Moore will perform 12-string acoustic songs from his own solo career, while fiddle and recorder player Laura Cannell adds string loops drawing on landscape and medieval music.
New Life is the fourth instalment of Art Assembly’s series investigating the seasons through experimental music and sonic art, the performance explores ideas of growth, rebirth and renewal. The series toured the UK with three shows across last year, Beauty in the Bleak, Landscapes, and Decay.
Landscapes, which took place at The Church of St. John on Bethnal Green last March, was helmed by Richard Skelton and featured sets by Rob St. John and Cannell. tQ’s Luke Turner said of the performance: “While much music (and indeed writing and art) inspired by landscape can end up as frustratingly anodyne as an amateur watercolour, the three sets in this rather special setting explore the wilds as what they were, are and can be: wild, broken, threatening.”
Tickets go on sale to Barbican members today and on general sale on Friday 15th January via this link.
