Long-term Quietus favourite Gazelle Twin returns this year with a new album, UNFLESH, out via Anti-Ghost Moon Ray Records, the Brighton-based collective of which she’s a founding member. We’ve got a first taste of the album with new single ‘Belly Of The Beast’, set for release on March 3 – listen above.
The new cut suggests a trading in of the smoother-edged, at-times orchestral feeling work of her debut LP, 2011’s The Entire City, and the Mammal EP last year, in favour of something far more stark, perhaps a reflection of the two-year gestation of the new album. A soundbed of supermarket checkout bleeps underpins a throbbing drum machine, Elizabeth Bernholz (for Gazelle Twin is she) intoning, "I’ll beat them all at their own game", before the track cranks up into a loping rhythm, firing on rapid, rattling percussive clicks. Alongside the single, Gazelle Twin’s released a clip of the video, directed by Esther Springett and centred around the demonic activity of a face-less girl/ghoul – take a look at that below and download the single above.
