Gazelle Twin, aka Brighton artist and musician Elizabeth Walling, has announced the release of a new three-track EP, ‘Mammals’ (artwork above), out on January 28 via Sugarcane.
It’s been in the offing for a little while now, previously being due this summer, in which time Walling’s had ‘Bell Tower’ used in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Expect a similar set of grandiloquent, doom-ridden electroscapes to last year’s debut The Entire City – ‘Mammals’ takes its lead from both Ennio Morricone’s score to John Carpenter’s 1982 horror classic The Thing and Death Grips’ visceral hip hop, with its aesthetic being the "the alienation of human physical form". The EP comprises two new songs, ‘I Turn My Arm’ and ‘This Is My Hand’ – the latter covering "the fear and awe I felt when I first realised I was a physical object" – and a Colin Newman-approved cover of The Wire’s ‘Heartbeat’.
As with the full-length remix LP of The Entire City, the EP will be getting the reworking treatment, with an impressive cast taking on the cast: Clint Mansell, Kuedo, Renaissance Man and Alexander III.
