Brighton Krautrock connoisseurs Fujiya & Miyagi released their fifth album Artificial Sweeteners earlier this year. Now, Stephen Morris of New Order has been let at ‘Daggers’ from the record, adding a shading of dancefloor readiness with the remix’s synth stabs, but mainly revelling in an ever-more kinetic plethora of drum machine patterns.
Says the band’s David Best of how the rework came about: "We heard that Stephen liked some of the stuff we had done, so we thought we’d chance our arm and ask him if he’d be up for doing a remix which happily he was. Our last record Artificial Sweeteners was our most electronic since we began so it seemed natural to ask him to do it given his history. I think it does what good remixes should do, and approaches the song from a different direction. Although it’s still pretty synthy, ‘Daggers’ is one of the more band-sounding songs on our record so it’s nice to hear it deconstructed in a more electronic way. We also asked Umberto to do a remix and the same can be said for what he did with ‘Little Stabs At Happiness’ too. I think they compliment one another really well. It’s interesting to hear when other people take your songs to places you haven’t."
Listen to the remix (not yet confirmed for a release) above and catch the band at Wire’s DRILL: BRIGHTON festival in December.
