Front & Follow Mark 10 Years With 50th Release

The team behind the Front & Follow label mark 10 years of existence with their 50th release

Lessons, the new release from Front & Follow, one of tQ’s favourite labels, not only marks a decade of existence for the imprint, but is also the label’s 50th release. Above, you can stream three tracks from that record, from Pye Corner Audio, Howlround and Kemper Norton.

The record, a various artists compilation bringing together old and new faces from the label under various guises, features music from the likes of Leyland Kirby, Laura Cannell, Pye Corner Audio and the label’s first collaborator, Elite Barbarian, as well as their most recent, The Slowest Lift.

Front & Follow say that the release "reflects the eclectic nature of the label," explaining that the label began in 2007 inspired by a demo received from Sone Institute aka Roman Bezdyk. "It was in a handmade package, the cover a collage of weird art from imaginary sci-fi films of the 60s, and the music was weird too, and wonderful."

Setting off from there, Front & Follow assembled their first four releases in the form of the patch series with experimentations of all kinds – collaborations, remix records, one-off projects – following those releases, with the label now arriving at their 50th release.

In all, Lessons takes in 25 tracks, all previously unreleased, across two discs, with the label aiming to look forward rather than back as they mark these two milestones with the compilation.

Alongside Lessons a new clear 10" record from Kemper Norton will be released featuring ‘Stannum’, their contribution to the compilation. 10 copies have been pressed, and will be sold for £10,000 each, though the label stresses that a few more copies will be made available at a more reasonable transactional cost as part of ongoing celebrations this winter.

You can pre-order Lessons here, where you can also stream six tracks from the record ahead of its release. The compilation is out on October 20. Check out a teaser video for the compilation below.
