Glasgow duo Free Love will next month return to Optimo Music for their first release since last year’s excellent Luxury Hits, which came out through their own Full Ashram label.
Premiering above is a video for ‘Bones’ which features on the group’s new mini-album EXTREME DANCE ANTHEMS. That record is their first on the label as Free Love, having released on JD Twitch’s imprint under their previous name, Happy Meals. The track itself centres around squelchy 303 acid house patterns and jacking drums, and comes complete with a video bearing heavy references to ritualism.
"We recorded EXTREME DANCE ANTHEMS in our recently moved studio, ‘Full Ashram Celestial Garden’, which is now situated in a building that holds both a church below us and a sex club next door," Free Love say. "Most of the tracks were formed from late-night sessions that we started to kind of ritualistically hold inspired from a particular thought or idea that we later cut down and did a live mixdown of.
"The music is about physicality and the metaphysical – it is about a re-contextualisation of the ineffable as a centre point of existence which in turn influences how we engage with everything around us. A celebration of the unquantifiable, unspeakable, indivisible EXPERIENCE as the throne from which all ideas are derived. Even though the world is fucked – we are here."
Optimo Music will release EXTREME DANCE ANTHEMS on September 20. The pair have a number of UK live shows locked in including an appearance at Bristol’s Simple Things on October 19. They’ll also play shows at London’s The Waiting Room on November 16, Headrow House in Leeds on November 19, Liverpool’s Outpost on November 21, Yes in Manchester on November 22 and, finally, Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s on December 7.
