DJ Shadow is compiling his early noodlings on the Akai MPC sampler and releasing them for our collective listening pleasure, reports Pitchfork.
Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From the MPC Era, 1992-1996 will be a 24-track collection of the early instrumental material he was working on before 1996’s seminal Endtroducing…... It’s coming out on CD, double vinyl and download from Shadow’s website, the latter adding three bonus tracks.
While there’s no release date as yet, there are a couple of free downloads doing the rounds. Get both the bare-bones but rather excellent drum-loop experiment ‘Dreams Of A Piece’ and the poised guitar and keys jam ‘Affectations’ below. Both are a great deal better than anything he’s done for… erm… quite a long while. Let’s leave it at that.
