New Franz Ferdinand single ‘Ulysses’ is now streaming on the band’s mySpace page.
Rumours abound of an Afrocentric bent in the Scottish quartet’s new material but it’s in scant evidence here, ver Franz opting instead to slink in the back door via a funky bassline and Alex Kapranos’ half-whispered, insidious vocals.
Then they put their proverbial wellies on and some incongruous synths kick in for the kind of clobbersome choral histrionics which suggest it’s going to be very much business as usual for the pub-friendly post-punkers’ third LP, entitled Tonight: Franz Ferdinand and due on January 26th on Domino.
Which is no bad thing really, but most pressingly you’ll probably be wanting to give it a listen. Well, go on then.
‘Ulysses’ will be released on January 19th.
