Yet another bizarre news story involving someone called Frank, this time the tidings that Michael Fassbender, who you’ll know from such films as Shame, Hunger and Prometheus is to play the late, great Frank Sidebottom creator Chris Sievey in a forthcoming biopic. According to reports this morning, the film will not be "literally true" but, we hope, at least features a papier-mache noggin. We do know that it’s to be directed by Lenny Abrahamson with a screenplay by Peter Straughan, who wrote excellent suit-fest Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy. If you’d like to donate to the fund that’s seeking to erect a Frank Sidebottom statue, go here.
UPDATE: Jon Ronson has taken to Twitter to make a few clarification, thus: "Hey! The film isn’t a film about Frank Sidebottom. It’s fictional, inspired by Frank but also by other great mavericks like Daniel Johnston. It’s not a film about Frank Sidebottom! It’s totally made up and – whilst inspired by Frank – is inspired by other people too. Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart are other inspirations. Bowled over that Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson are in our film."
