Frank Ocean Confusion Continues

Flurry of confusion around the release of Frank Ocean's new album following website redirects, a missed release date and trolling efforts

July passed and yet Frank Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry failed to show despite a blog post from Ocean earlier this year hinting at a July release date for the album. To add to the confusion however, Ocean’s website frankocean.com begun redirecting to boysdontcry.co over the weekend which displayed a short message saying that the site would be open soon while also requesting a password.

As of now, the domain name for frankocean.com is up for sale – it’s yours for the taking — while boysdontcry.co is "temporarily unavailable". When both sites were up, a number of plucky internet users discovered information on merchandise including pricing and images for a selection of T-shirts, hoodies and shoes hidden in the pages.

To add to the confusion, Ocean’s brother, Ryan Breaux, took the opportunity to make the most of fans’ anticipation with an age-old trolling technique, taking to Instagram to repost the image that Ocean used when announcing the album back in April adding the message "Its finally out! Link in my bio." The link in his Instagram bio however linked to, you guessed it, the video for Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. All of this means that we’re no closer to pinning down an exact release date for the new album but with the recent load of activity it seems the wait won’t be too long now.
