Footage Emerges of Aphex Twin DJing at a Friend’s Wedding

The enigmatic producer played for less than 100 people

Footage has emerged online of Aphex Twin DJing at a friend’s wedding this past weekend.

A 30-second video from the set was posted on TikTok this week, showing the enigmatic artist, real name Richard D. James, performing with a laptop, two CDJs and a mixer in front of him, while visuals are projected in the background. He played for less than 100 people and reportedly agreed to the set as a wedding gift to the groom.

As you might expect, James didn’t select the kind of classic tracks you might expect to hear at most wedding parties, with the drum & bass classic ‘The Bells’ by producer Jonny L featuring in his set among other cuts. He shared the bill with Planet Mu-affiliated artist Luke Vibert and a DJ from the London-based record label futureRetro.

In October, James’ classic record Selected Ambient Works Volume II will be reissued with added bonus cuts by Warp Records to mark 30 years since its original release.
