After a short teaser video posted online earlier this week, which you can take a look at above, Foals have announced that their fourth album, What Went Down will be released on August 28, with a single of the same name set to premiere on Tuesday (June 16).
The album follows 2013’s Holy Fire and was produced with James Ford, recorded in the South of France in a rural 19th-century mill. Frontman Yannis Philippakis is said to deal with themes around cultural identity, generational anxiety, cynicism, pessimism and heartbreak, with Philippakis saying "I wanted to tap into my inner madman and feel like I was channeling some sort of fevered creature." ‘What Went Down’, the single, meanwhile, is being described as a return to the more visceral incarnation of Foals in their very early days. The album artwork is below.
