Floating Points Announces New EP

One of the UK's finest producers announces his biggest release to date, on his own label Eglo

In the wake of his Danger 7", London producer Floating Points, aka Sam Shepherd, has announced the release of his biggest record to date. The Shadows EP features 5 tracks and is due to come out through Eglo, the label he runs with Alexander Nut, on November 21st.

Shadows is described as part of a collaborative project between Shepherd and his friend Will Hurt, who progammed a patch which generates visuals in real time by examining drum machine and synth activity. You can get an idea of the results in this advance video for jazzy EP track ‘Sais’.

Since beginning to release music in 2009, Shepherd very quickly became established as one of the UK’s most exciting producers. Though some of his early releases were rooted in dubstep and garage, his reach was always far wider, reaching outward to draw in elements of funk, soul, house and hip-hop. Thus far he reached his peak with the almighty ‘Vacuum Boogie’, still a pleasingly common fixture on club floors. The Shadows EP contains that track’s natural successor and Shepherd’s best track to date, ‘ARP3’, a zero-gravity house jam that’s recently been laying seige to London dancefloors in the hands of the likes of Ben UFO and Joy Orbison. You can listen to a clip from it below.
