Returning for a third year, the first set of names has been announced for Convergence 2016.
Among those set to play the multi-venue festival next year are Actress, of Montreal, Lamb, The Gaslamp Killer, !!! chk chk chk, Darkstar, Omar Souleyman, Clap! Clap!, Simbiosi, Larry Gus, KUTMAH, The Herbaliser’s Night of Future-Funk (with Rodney P) and The Correspondents.
A special event celebrating the work of Gil Scott-Heron will also see musical direction from The Invisible’s Dave Okumu and guest vocals from Jamie Woon, Kwabs, Loyle Carner, Gwylim Gold and more. Festival Director Glenn Max says: “While there is no single theme to this year’s array of installations, talks and concerts, a recurring idea is the re-materialisation of culture beyond its digital vaporisation. Convergence is a many-headed beast led by heroic innovators, fiery personalities and evocative voices that are masters, rather than slaves, to the algorithm.”
Convergence 2016 will, as ever, take place at a number of London venues including the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, St John-at-Hackney Church, Troxy and Village Underground, while the Roundhouse and KOKO will also join the list of venues for the festival. It runs from March 10-20 with more acts set to be announced in due course. You can find out more information and get tickets here.
