A rare record from the Beatles featuring their first recording has sold at auction for over seven times its £10,000 price tag, collecting £77,500.
As CNN reports, the 10” record, recorded in Liverpool in 1962, was discovered in the attic of Les Maguire, otherwise known as the keyboardist in Gerry and the Pacemakers. It features the first song John Lennon every wrote, ‘Hello Little Girl’, and was cut a few months before the release of ‘Love Me Do’.
Recorded to tape, ‘Hello Little Girl’ and a Paul McCartney-penned track called ’Til There Was You’ were both transferred to vinyl at HMV in Oxford Circus where the record eventually ended up in the hands of EMI’s Syd Coleman and then onto George Martin, who signed them to the label. The record was sold at auction to an anonymous British collector.
