Finders Keepers To Release Suzanne Ciani Recordings From 1973

'Music For Denali' comprises previously unheard music for a documentary about the first-ever skiers' decent from the peak of the tallest mountain in Alaska

Finders Keepers will continues its long-standing partnership with Suzanne Ciani this August with the release of a collection of recordings by the composer that date back to 1973.

The rare and previously unheard recordings featured on Music For Denali were originally created for a documentary about the first-ever skiers’ decent from the peak of the tallest mountain in Alaska. They came at a time when Ciani was starting out in the world of film composing and sound design.

Finders Keepers says that the recordings found on Music For Denali fall within a "lesser-documented axis [of her work] combining Ciani’s key disciplines as a revolutionary synthesist and an accomplished pianist." The music was also commissioned two years before Ciani’s very first Buchla concerts in 1974 and 1975.

"Denali was composed using just Buchla and piano," explains Suzanne in 2020. "It was recorded at Rainbow Recording, which is the studio I found and shared with recording engineer Richard Beggs, who then sold it to Francis Ford Coppola after I fell in love and quickly moved to LA. If I had stuck around I would have probably ended up doing sound for Coppola."

Finders Keepers’ release of Music For Denali comes a year on from the label putting out Flowers Of Evil, another unheard album of hers which dates back to 1969.

Finders Keepers will release Music For Denali on August 7, 2020.
