Erykah Badu Curates New Fela Kuti Reissues

A number of Fela Kuti's classic LPs will be reissued and remastered with the help of Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu has helped to curate a new reissue boxset which will feature several of Fela Kuti’s albums in remastered form.

The boxset will include LPs Yellow Fever (1976), No Agreement (1977), J.J.D. (Johnny Just Drop) (1977), V.I.P. (1979), Coffin For Head of State (1980), Army Arrangement (1984) and Underground System (1992).

The release is the fourth in a series of boxsets curated by known musicians, following Brian Eno, Ginger Baker and ?uestlove. "Fela Kuti is a fucking genius," Badu says. "Please listen to these tracks, preferably with a nice blunt… with a nice slow burn."

Each album has been remastered from the original recordings, featuring cover and vinyl artwork recreated from each LP’s initial release. They are limited to 3,000 copies worldwide and will be available to buy from December 11 via Knitting Factory Records. You can pre-order a copy here and check out one of Badu’s personal Fela Kuti favourites, ‘Yellow Fever’, above.
