Factory Floor have announced their first gig in more than five years, which will take place at this year’s MUTEK festival in Montréal.
Nik Void has confirmed news of the performance, her first with Gabe Gurnsey since 2019, today via an Instagram post. They join the likes of Colin Stetson, Aïsha Devi, Kode9 and Evian Christ on the bill for the festival, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024.
Long-time readers of The Quietus will know that Factory Floor were one of the greatest bands we encountered in our early years of operation, notorious for live gigs that were like raving in a jet turbine and a run of absolutely killer EPs for labels such as DFA and Optimo Music. For those who missed them then, our John Doran wrote an article back in 2010 explaining why they were his favourite band.
As he wrote: "No two of their gigs are the same. When they played Cargo with HTRK, it was not just one of the best gigs of that year, but one of the best I’ve seen. The groups were like two sides of one coin. After a blizzard of noise and light came languid release. They created and ushered some beauty into the world. For a moment it was perfect."
MUTEK XXV will take place from August 20 to 25, 2024. Find more information here.
