Quietus favourites The Eccentronic Research Council have unveiled the first track off their upcoming album Johnny Rocket, Narcissist And Music Machine…I’m Your Biggest Fan. The record is out on May 18 via Without Consent and again features the familiar tones of regular ERC collaborator Maxine Peake – give ‘Welcome To Valhalla Dale’ a play above.
The record’s the product of a collaboration with Fat White Family’s Lias Saoudi and Saul Adamczewski, who appear as part of the fictional band, The Moonlandingz. The ERC’s Adrian Flanagan credits tQ for bringing the two parties together, telling us: "I picked Champagne Holocaust by Fat White Family as one of my album choices in the Baker’s Dozen feature I did for the Quietus. They invited me to hang out with them in Sheffield at one of their shows, we got on great. Then they invited me to come with them the next day to Manchester and I was mad enough to get in the van with them." Read the Baker’s in full here, while our interview with The ERC, Peake and Saoudi – where tQ’s John Doran called the album "a record for our times: a swirling, brightly lit, adrenaline surging, fairground carousel ride of gleaming synth pop, narcotic psych rock, bewitching spoken word and demented avant-garde electronics" – is here.
