Berlin-based label Groenland is preparing the release of a compilation that aims to bring together some of the most influential analogue electronic music to emerge from Düsseldorf between 1969 and 1986. The release, entitled Elektronische Musik Aus Düsseldorf, features productions from former Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür, NEU!, Harmonia & Eno, Michael Rother and a number of other key proponents of Germany’s early electronic music scene. As a first listen to the collection, ahead of the full release on October 13, we’ve got a play of one of the featured tracks, from Wolfgang Riechmann. A relatively forgotten figure in the Düsseldorf collective, Riechmann had previously played with Flür and Rother in the band Spirits Of Sound before releasing his only solo album, entitled Wunderbar, in 1978. Have a listen to that record’s title track above.
"The influence and atmosphere of the famous Düsseldorf Art Academy is partly responsible for providing a profound background for many of these bands," says Groenland of the artists featured on the compilation. "Aware or unconscious, these people explored new ways of making music." Head to their website to get hold of the compilation upon release.
