South-west doom mongers Electric Wizard have teamed up with Spinefarm Records, in league with the band’s Witchfinder Records stable, to release their eighth, as-yet-to-be-titled forthcoming album. The LP is set to be a typically sludgy addition to their already filthy body of work, which includes 1997’s Come My Fanatics and 2000’s Dopethrone.
Vocalist Jus Oborn said of the impending release: “…with this new album, we wanted to return to basic values. It’s primitive. We needed to claw it back down to the evil core – sex, drugs, violence, revolution… to go back to being a band that hung out and jammed hard”.
Speaking to The Quietus recently Osborn said "I don’t think anything surprises our long-standing fans because we have always been influenced by the bizarre and outré. We have always attempted to create an uncertain and ambiguous morality and worldview by obsessing on these things, what some may call ‘negative’ or ‘evil’. But that’s fuckin’ art."
The band will also be appearing at a clutch of ear-damaging festivals this summer, including spots at Denmark’s Roskilde and UK’s Sonisphere. Check out the dates at their Facebook page here.
