Elbow Announce Children’s Album And Cartoon!

Melodic Mancunian rockers Elbow are to follow up Mercury by moving into kid's music and animation market.

Where does a band turn its sights after winning the Mercury Prize? At the lucrative children’s entertainment market, apparently.

Talking to Billboard Magazine frontman Guy Garvey revealed his plan: "We initially thought that it would be great to make music for children because the lads in the band have got kids and they were saying how little really decent music for children there is."

He also said that the album would probably lead into an animated film, citing Jeff Wayne’s popular War Of The Worlds concept album as inspiration.

Garvey said that the project would have to jostle for space with their upcoming fifth album as well, suggesting that the band’s recent Mercury Prize for The Seldom Seen Kid has given them a new lease of life.

And the band are not the only ones. The Seldom Seen Kid has spent the last two weeks in the UK top ten thanks to the sales impact of the Mercury win. It leapt from No. 61 to No. 7 last week and HMV said its sales had increased by 688%.
